CV: Rose Byrne

Rose’s dark new comedy, Physical, starts on Apple TV+ today. She has built her career around well-chosen drama and comedy roles, and here is where you can see some of the best…

● Born in a suburb of Sydney, Australia in 1979,

Rose is the youngest of four siblings. She began taking acting classes at the age of eight and landed her first screen role at 15, in 1994

TV movie Dallas Doll. Further roles in

Aussie TV and films followed, including

Two Hands (1999), with Heath Ledger. ● Rose moved to Hollywood in her early 20s; she landed tiny roles in 2002’s Star Wars: Episode II (Disney+) and 2004’s Troy (buy or rent on Amazon, Sky) – plus a larger part in 2007 sci-fi thriller Sunshine

(Disney+) – before her breakout role in the legal series Damages

(buy on Amazon, Apple TV), which ran from 2007-12. ● After proving that she could do serious drama, Rose was keen to move into comedy, and proved she had the chops for it in 2010’s Get Him To The Greek (buy or rent on Amazon, Apple TV, Sky). Her comic highlights include 2011’s Bridesmaids (Amazon Prime), 2014’s Bad Neighbours (Netflix) and its 2016 sequel (buy or rent on Amazon, Apple TV, Sky), plus 2015 spoof Spy (12.10am, Ch4, see Movie Choice). ● She is currently in cinemas in Peter Rabbit 2, playing Bea, an artist loosely based on the books’ creator, Beatrix Potter. She has two children with her long-term partner, actor Bobby Cannavale.
