Meat giant paid £8m to hackers
HACKERS extorted £8million in Bitcoin from the world’s largest meat-processing firm after paralysing its beef plants. Brazil-based JBS S.A. said last month’s cyber attack disrupted operations in the US and Australia over several days but most plants had remained operational. ‘This was a very difficult decision to make,’ said Andre Nogueira, head of JBS USA. ‘However, we felt this decision had to be made to prevent any potential risk for our customers.’ The FBI has blamed Russian-speaking gang REvil for the ransomware attack.
