Scotland to stand as England kneel

Euro 2020 The Big Kick-off

By CRAIG HOPE

SCOTLAND will not take the knee when they face England at wembley — and will instead take a stand against racism during the European Championship. There had been talk of steve Clarke’s side joining England in taking the knee ahead of next Friday’s game. In light of England players getting booed when kneeling during friendlies at the Riverside, Clarke said he would speak to his players to decide if they would reverse a decision taken in March to no longer kneel prior to kick-off. They felt then that it had become ‘diluted’. But the scottish Fa have confirmed that their stance has not changed, meaning England are likely to be the only team in Group D taking the knee. a statement read: ‘scotland will continue to take a stand against racism prior to kick-off for all Euro 2020 matches.’ Captain andy Robertson added: ‘It is important we continue to tackle the issue of racism and raise awareness of the need to change people’s mindsets. ‘Prior to our world Cup qualifiers in March we spoke as a group and we felt that taking a stand was the best way for us to show solidarity and also to reinforce the need for change in our society.’
