at the head of three generations of her family, the Queen led a royal charm offensive last night designed to dazzle the world’s most powerful leaders.

Her Majesty beamed as she welcomed G7 leaders to a sumptuous evening banquet at the Eden Project tourist attraction in Cornwall.

the occasion was the monarch’s first significant appearance since the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.

alongside her were the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. the Queen was resplendent in a floral coat, while Kate cut an elegant figure in a mid-length cream alexander McQueen gown – thought to have cost £3,000. Camilla opted for a long-sleeved black and white dress.

In a sign of the increasing role that the Cambridges will play in royal life, it was William and Kate’s first appearance at a G7 summit.

Boris Johnson and his new wife Carrie – wearing a black floral dress by Vampire’s Wife and yellow Prada shoes – arrived hand-in-hand. In a demonstration of her green credentials, she rented her dress from British website HURR. It costs £805 when bought new. Last to arrive was US President Joe Biden with First Lady Jill Biden.

the reception marks the first time the newly-elected President has met the Queen. the menu for the event was created by chef Emily Scott of the Watergate Bay Hotel in Newquay and included Cornish turbot and new potatoes and local cheeses.

the royals are at the centre of Britain’s diplomatic mission to woo the US as Mr Johnson pushes for a quick free trade deal with Mr Biden, as well as a quarantine-free travel corridor this summer.
