£430m pledge to teach the world’s vulnerable
A £430million pledge to get 1. billion of the world’s most vulnerable children into school has been made by the Prime Minister.
But campaigners said the amount fell far short of what was required and criticised the ‘half measures’ offered by Boris Johnson. No 10 said the pandemic had caused a global crisis in education with over a billion children around the world out of school, with girls the worst affected. Mr Johnson said investing in education was the best way to lift countries out of poverty. Rose Caldwell, head of charity Plan International UK, said that to be considered a global education leader No 10 should increase its pledge and reverse foreign aid cuts.
