Saluting Covid heroes

SHORN of the luvvie actors, minted sportsmen and political plodders, it wouldn’t be a Queen’s Honours List.

But this year’s roll of distinction celebrates a true band of heroes: The inspirational beacons of the Covid war.

From Sarah Gilbert and Kate Bingham, the pair behind the AstraZeneca jab and our vaccine rollout, to Rowhi Nemer, a cabbie who drove NHS staff to work, we can take pride in their recognition.

We shouldn’t however forget the countless millions who quietly donated valuable time or money. Not least, of course, our magnificent readers. Without your generosity, the Mail Force campaign couldn’t have raised £25million to provide life-saving PPE for frontline health workers or laptops for deprived youngsters.

Sung or unsung, we salute you all.
