Exiles’ Euro bid hit by Covid

WILL KELLEHER

LONDON IRISH have suffered a Covid scare before their final match of the Premiership season at Bristol. Sportsmail understands two squad members were found to be positive after lateral flow tests, so now the club have arranged secondary PCR tests. Irish may have to cancel their trip to Bristol in the event that contact tracing knocks out enough players so they cannot field a 23-man squad. That would damage the Exiles’ hopes for Heineken Champions Cup qualification, as then they would likely take two points, with Bristol four, from this last match, as per league rules. They need to win to force their way into the league’s top eight. A final call on the status of the match is likely to be made today. Gloucester’s match at Worcester set for this weekend was cancelled on Tuesday after an outbreak at Kingsholm. Meanwhile, Sale go to Exeter today needing to beat the Chiefs with a four-try bonus point, and deny their hosts anything to seal second place and a home semi-final play-off.
