Arsenal in hunt for £50m England new boy White

By ADRIAN KAJUMBA

ARSENAL are weighing up the cost of a deal for Ben White as they consider pursuing their interest in the England new boy. Arsenal are among the clubs keen on the versatile defender and have held exploratory talks over a move for the 23-year-old. As revealed by Sportsmail, Brighton have placed a £50million price tag on their academy graduate which they hope will deter admirers who also include Manchester United and Liverpool. His status as an England international plus a year of Premier League football under his belt means White would also command a significant wage increase. He signed a four-year Brighton deal worth about £35,000 a week last summer. Arsenal are assessing whether a deal for White (left) will fit in with their budget. They hope to strengthen in a number of positions but failure to qualify for Europe has hit their finances. Richard Garlick’s arrival as head of football operations means Arsenal now have a two-step approach to getting deals over the line. Technical director Edu is involved in the initial recruitment and contact stage with transfer targets before passing over to Garlick to handle negotiations.
