Brassed Off

( 1996) Film4, 11.05pm Written and directed by Mark Herman, this moving comedy drama follows the fortunes of a South Yorkshire colliery band after the pit at which its members worked is closed down. The all-star cast includes Ewan McGregor (above), Tara Fitzgerald and Pete Postlethwaite, but it's Stephen Tompkinson who steals the show as a miner in despair.
