Sad ‘first’ for rower Florijn

A DUTCH rower yesterday became the first Olympian to test positive for Covid mid-competition.

Finn Florijn, 21, had finished fourth in a heat of the men’s single sculls early on Friday. That was enough to go into the repechage for fast losers and offered a possible back door into the quarter-finals, only for Florijn to learn of the test finding a few hours after his opening race.
