PICK OF THE DAY

DANCING ON ICE 6.30PM, ITV

★★★★

For this 14th series of the ice-dancing contest, Strictly’s Oti Mabuse joins Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean and Ashley Banjo on the judging panel. The line-up this year features a few celebrities who know their way around a dance floor – including Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt (right), former Strictly pro Brendan Cole and Regan Gascoigne, the son of ex-footballer Paul, who trained as a dancer. It remains to be seen how they’ll cope on the ice – and it will surely be fun seeing what techniques Happy Mondays’ Bez deploys on the rink.

THE GREEN PLANET 7PM, BBC1

★★★★★

David Attenborough takes to a rowing boat to tell stories of plants that live in water. He introduces us to the travelling water lettuce, Japan’s dancing marimo and the all-consuming giant water lily, while in the Mediterranean, he reveals the significance of vast meadows of seagrass, which grew from a single seed 100,000 years ago.

VERA 8PM, ITV

★★★★ This week’s case involves the death of teacher Lizzy, a mumof-two, who is found on rocks beneath a clifftop coastal walk. Against ominous skies, leaden with cloud and well-suited to Vera’s mood and lack of patience, the team investigate Lizzy’s life and death. Secret after secret rises to the surface, until the darkest one of all reveals the devastating truth.

SUE PERKINS’ BIG AMERICAN ROAD TRIP

9PM, CH4 ★★★★

‘Van life’ – as depicted in the Oscar-winning film Nomadland – is a lifestyle choice in the US, where people swap bricks and mortar for a travelling camper van home. Sue heads there to get a taste of van life, and to meet some of the more than one million Americans whose homes have wheels.
