M&S has left us in the lurch
The boss of Marks & Spencer, Stuart Machin, called on the Government to ‘help the high street’ in last week’s Mail on Sunday. What two-faced humbug and hypocrisy. If he truly wanted to ‘help the high street’, he would not be abandoning loyal customers, as he has in Colchester where M&S has shut after 91 years on the High Street, to move to a soulless shopping mall on the outskirts.
Sir Bob Russell, Colchester
While I have sympathy for M&S with an energy bill up by £100million, they could do more to help themselves. Most of their stores waste a huge amount of heating. The staff walk around in short sleeves while customers are uncomfortable, having dressed appropriately for the time of year.
