FIVE NEW SPORTS NOT TO MISS

Karate has its origins in Japan and will be in two forms – kata, a solo discipline judged on choreographed movements, and kumite, when athletes go head to head. Skateboarding and surfing will make their debut, and baseball and softball have been brought back after they last appeared at the 2008 Olympics. The final new event is sport climbing (left), which has three disciplines including speed and bouldering.
