PICK OF THE DAY

LONG LOST FAMILY

9PM, ITV ★★★★

It’s hard not to be moved by the words of 51-year-old Paula Stillie (right), who grew up with a loving adoptive family in Scotland. ‘I don’t know where I come from… Who do I look like?’ Paula is mixed race and, as a child, was desperate to look like her white parents, but what is startling is that she knows nothing of her actual heritage. Davina Mccall and Nicky Campbell turn to DNA to give her the answers. Tonight’s second story follows Lisa Harding as she honours her mother’s dying wish for her to find Alexandra, the daughter her mum gave up for adoption.

ONLY CONNECT/ UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE 8PM/8.30PM, BBC2

★★★★ Boffins assemble – Monday night is brainbox night. First up, Victoria Coren Mitchell has the contestants flexing their lateral thinking muscles in Only Connect at 8pm, before teams from the

London Business School and Hertford College, Oxford take the University Challenge.

HOW TO SAVE A GRAND IN 24 HOURS 8PM, CH4

★★★

Anna Richardson and the cost-savvy experts parachute in to help Neil and Matt to sort their spending. Not good with numbers (Matt even gets his age wrong), the couple live in a home cluttered by impulse purchases, and have fallen into expensive, lazy takeaway meal habits. Help is on its way.

TAKEN: HUNTING THE SEX TRAFFICKERS

9PM, CH4 ★★★

This second episode is a tough watch as police visit brothels to reach out to the women who are being exploited by organised crime. Unsurprisingly, not one of these terrified women is prepared to speak out and give evidence. Instead, investigators must catch their man red-handed. SA
