AND FOUR MORE GRAND DAYS OUT

LACOCK ABBEY

Dating back to the 13th century, Lacock Abbey (above) was once home to William Henry Fox Talbot, one of the founders of modern photography. Frustrated by his inability to paint or draw, he sought another way to capture images. ‘How charming it would be if it were possible to cause these natural images to imprint themselves and remain fixed upon the paper!’ he wrote. Lacock Abbey and village have been used as locations for films and TV series including Harry Potter, Cranford and Downton Abbey.
