HAS JEN SUNK GRAY’S PLAN?

How will Gray react when Jen tries to send Whitney off on a cruise ship gig? We ask Eastenders actress Kate Robbins

Evil Eastenders solicitor Gray woos Whitney by encouraging music agent Jen to give the wannabe singer a second chance – but soon ends up regretting it. Jen, who is Walford’s answer to Sharon Osbourne, was last seen on Albert Square in August offering Whitney an opportunity to take part in a £10,000 singing competition if she turned professional – which she did, overcoming her nerves to wow drinkers at the Queen Vic.

Encouraged by the praise, Whitney last week reached the final of Jen’s talent show but was disqualified after her manager Rocky got into a fight.

Step forward Gray. The serial killer sees his opportunity to win Whitney’s heart and, posing as her manager, persuades Jen to put Whitney on the line-up for her upcoming entertainment industry showcase.

‘Jen sees Gray and immediately thinks he’s head over heels in love with Whitney,’ explains showbusiness veteran Kate Robbins, who plays her. ‘She thinks he’s willing to do anything for the woman he loves.

‘She can see through him but wants to give Whitney another chance anyway, so she humours him. She obviously doesn’t know what he’s capable of, but she’s seen men like him before – this isn’t her first rodeo!’

Whitney is thrilled and she agrees to date secret serial killer Gray, who in the past year has bumped off his wife Chantelle, Tina and Kush. But his joy is shortlived when Jen offers Whitney a gig on a cruise ship.

‘Jen thinks Whitney has a lot of talent but, having been in the industry a long time, she’s realistic about what she needs to do to make a living as a singer,’ says Kate.

‘If Whitney can’t get a recording contract the next best thing is a gig

on a cruise. She knows this is the best option for her – earning great money and travelling the world – so she’ll encourage her to do that.’

Gray knows this means he’ll lose Whitney, and so tries to talk his new girlfriend out of it. But when that fails, he takes matters into his own hands. How far will Gray go to sink Whitney’s cruise offer, and will he succeed? ‘You’ll have to watch and see,’ is all Kate will say.

Kate comes from a showbusiness dynasty that includes her brother Ted

Robbins, who she started her career alongside in ITV comedy series Kate And Ted’s Show in 1987, and her Inbetweeners star daughter, Emily Atack.

She’s also appeared in Dinnerladies, Spitting Image and Citizen Khan, and represented the UK in the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest as part of pop group Prima Donna.

But she says Eastenders tops the lot. ‘I’ve always wanted to be on the show so it’s been a huge thrill. Everyone’s so welcoming. I’m very lucky.’
