PICK OF THE DAY

THE 80S – MUSIC’S GREATEST DECADE? 8.55PM, BBC2

★★★★ Music and lifestyle journalist Dylan Jones takes us back to the era of mix tapes and hair crimpers to present a very convincing argument that the 1980s were a decade of great musical innovation. It was an era that saw the rise of the modern music video; it was also a time when genres were born, spliced up and diversified – driven by super-producers, technology and, sometimes, a message. Looking back, to a thrilling soundtrack, are members of Spandau Ballet (Gary Kemp, right), The Fall and Soul II Soul.

THE LANCASTER BOMBER AT80 7PM, CH4

★★★★ David Jason narrates this oneoff film that tells the story of the iconic British aircraft, the heavy bomber that played a crucial role in defeating the Nazis in the Second World War. We hear from experts and enthusiasts, as well as veterans who flew in them, for a moving reflection on the Lancaster’s complex legacy.

THE NILE WITH SIR RANULPH FIENNES 8PM, CH5

★★★★

The famous explorer heads back to the scene of his 1969 expedition along the great river with his cousin, actor Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid’s Tale) in tow. Ranulph will be showing his younger relative how to cut it as an explorer in what makes for an entertaining and illuminating three-parter.

CASUALTY 9.30PM, BBC1

★★★

This episode focuses on the paramedics as Teddy teams up with his aunt, Jan, while Sah heads out with Iain. Jan doesn’t approve of how overfamiliar Teddy is, while Iain is constantly putting his foot in it with nonbinary Sah. But, as the day goes on, difficult and dangerous shouts will bring them all closer together. SIMONE ANDREWS
