The Missing (2014) The brothers’ breakthrough drama was a huge hit, a thriller starring James Nesbitt as the desperate father searching for his missing son in France. The French detective on the case (Tcheky Karyo) returned for series two, in 2016, and landed his own spin-off, Baptiste, in 2019, which just concluded its second series. All episodes of both shows are on iplayer. One Of Us (2016) This ensemble mystery, set in an isolated community in the Scottish Highlands, starred Juliet Stevenson. Watch on Netflix. Liar (2017-20) Angela Black star Joanne Froggatt took the lead in this thriller – although Ioan Gruffudd’s charismatic villain also attracted attention. The first series of the show went head to head in the schedules with Rellik (see below), and won the ratings war. Series 1-2 are on Britbox.

Rellik (2017) This devilish police procedural followed the hunt for a serial killer – backwards. Richard Dormer and Jodi Balfour starred. Available to buy on Amazon, Apple TV.

The Widow (2019) Kate Beckinsale (centre) won praise for her starring role in this drama, as the woman drawn into international intrigue after her husband apparently died while on a trip to the Congo. Watch on ITV Hub, Amazon Prime.
