IN HIS OWN WORDS: Gok Wan

As Gok presents the first of another week of his jewellery-based show, Bling (2pm, ITV), we reveal some things he’s had to say about his life and career…

On unwinding: ‘I hate holidays. They bore me. Whenever I go on holiday, it’s either for an event or because the people around me are making me take a break, because I’m about to crumble. Surely, you only go on holiday to get away from your life? I love my life.’ On taking up running during last winter’s lockdown: ‘I’ve made myself go out in the cold – it’s been amazing for my mental health… I am definitely fitter and healthier. My bum has lifted for the first time in my life, too!’ On Say Yes To The Dress Lancashire, which he’s hosted since 2019: ‘[It’s] like a good roast dinner; you have it probably once a week or once a fortnight, and although you always have the same stuff, you don’t love it any less!’

On feeling like an imposter, despite having had successful careers as a stylist, TV presenter, clothes designer and more: ‘How I wangled the MBE or any of the awards is beyond me, because in my mind, I’m still at my first job. I’m still applying make-up really badly.’

On getting things wrong, even though he’s a fashion expert:

‘Every single day, I commit another fashion faux pas. My approach to my personal fashion is I genuinely don’t care what people think. If I like something, I’m going to wear it.’
