What is it? Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, the team behind upbeat musical series
Glee, the franchise repopularised the anthology format. Different, self-contained miniseries – some fact-inspired, some fictional – are all linked by a consistent style and emotional punch, as well as a repertoire of actors, some of whom work across multiple series in the franchise.
What are the Stories? The franchise
began with American Horror Story in 2011, which is now on its tenth season (on Disney+; series 1-8 are on Netflix). Next came American Crime Story in 2016. The award-winning first season was The People v O.J.
Simpson, followed by The Assassination Of Gianni Versace (both on Netflix )and Impeachment. The latest spin-off is the youthoriented American Horror Stories (Disney+). Who’s in it? Recurring stars include Cuba Gooding Jr, Jessica Lange, Connie Britton and Dylan Mcdermott. Sarah Paulson (centre) is the big breakout star, appearing in nine seasons of Horror Story and two seasons of Crime Story, including Impeachment. What next? New spin-offs American Love Story and American Sports Story are confirmed. There will be three more seasons of Horror Story, a second season of Horror Stories and a fourth of Crime Story.
