Good clean fun, this British animation follows an upmarket rodent down the drain and into London’s sewers. It all feels pinefresh, and the voice cast is top-notch, too – it includes Hugh Jackman and Kate Winslet.

Tense thriller, inspired by a real-life mystery that transpired on the Flannan Isles in the Outer Hebrides in 1900. Gerard Butler, Peter Mullan and Connor Swindells are lighthouse keepers starting a lonely, windswept island shift, and making a chilling discovery.

11.15PM, FILM4 ★★★★ David Lynch’s neo-noir thriller begins with Kyle Maclachlan’s nice boy finding a severed ear in the grass. Isabella Rossellini (right) is the singer who enchants him, and there are also memorable performances from Dean Stockwell, who died in early November, and Dennis Hopper.

TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN

(2009) 12 ◆ 6.05PM, FILM4 ★★★ There is lots of talk of fate and destiny in this follow-up to Michael Bay’s hit sci-fi fantasy yarn. Sam (Shia Labeouf) arrives at college, where it soon becomes clear that he’s not got much chance of a quiet life on campus. Megan Fox (above) co-stars.

(2003) 12 ◆ ★★★ Ang Lee’s overly cerebral update of the Marvel Comics franchise stars Eric Bana as Bruce Banner, the doctor with a moody, green secret. Bana was later usurped by Edward Norton (see Saturday), then by Mark Ruffalo in Marvel’s Avengers movies.

Adam Sandler stars as the twins of the title (above), dragging up to play Jill, the visiting sister who outstays her Hanukkah welcome. In a bizarre twist, Jack, an ad man, wants to get Al Pacino to appear in a commercial, and Jill turns out to be his secret weapon.

★★★ Showing in two parts (concluding tomorrow), this madefor-tv biographical drama stars Tommy Lee Jones (above) as Hughes, the rich and eccentric American film-maker, aviation pioneer – and, latterly, hypochondriac.

Bruce Willis stars in this remake of the harsh vigilante thriller from 1974. Willis looks a lot smoother than original star Charles Bronson, but this film is rougher around the edges. Willis is Paul Kersey, an ER doctor who seeks revenge after the brutal slaying of his wife.

One of those actioners with a bonkers plot, this makes for an entertaining romp (think Face/off). Kevin Costner stars as a violent criminal who becomes host to the memories of a dead CIA man (Ryan Reynolds). Gary Oldman and glamorous Gal Gadot also star.

Satyajit Ray’s drama follows a middle-class family in the Calcutta of the 1950s as they move with the times. Arati (Madhabi Mukherjee, right) takes a job as a saleswoman, and emerges from her domestic shell to shine in her career.
