VICKY MCCLURE

TRIGGER POINT tomorrow, 9pm, ITV

1

I play Lana Washington [pictured], an explosives officer with the Metropolitan Police Bomb Disposal Squad. She and her colleagues are facing the biggest challenge of their careers with a terrorist bombing campaign in London. It was hard for the producers too. They had to complete endless paperwork before permissions to film were granted!

2 Just like my character, who unwinds from defusing a bomb by playing loud music, I used songs to either get in the mood for a scene or release the tension after I’d filmed one. Occasionally, I’d get to choose a piece of music for a scene, perhaps a bit of rap by one of my favourite artists, the American Skee-lo.

3

Our characters are part of a tense and frightening world so it was important to have moments of light relief too, like the nodding dog on the armrest in Lana’s van. He was already in residence when we started to film and was a constant companion.

4

The equipment we used was a mixture of props and the real thing. Items which were specially constructed for the show, such as bombs and suicide belts, were exact replicas. Viewers are so knowledgeable that you have to be absolutely on the money when it comes to props. The bomb disposal robots were the real thing and came complete with fully trained human operators.

5

I organised a huge delivery from Greggs for the cast and crew at the end of the shoot, as lots of people had made filming the show so enjoyable. I took away two souvenirs: Lana’s pyjamas and a Lego version of her.
