TODAY’S RADIO

ON YOUR FARM 6.35AM, RADIO 4

★★★

An avenue of Californian redwoods, including some of the tallest trees in England, reach for the sky on a high plateau in West Sussex. These trees are part of a magical garden that is set in a working farm with a history that goes back for more than a thousand years. Anna Louise Claydon hears about the estate where they are reviving ancient farming methods to tackle 21st-century problems.

FILE ON 4 5PM, RADIO 4 ★★★

It’s terrible to wait beside someone who is on the brink of death while an ambulance struggles to get through. Covid has made things even worse, and ambulance delays are now at record level. We listen in to

audio diaries from paramedics, crews and call handlers as they did their best under a deluge of tragedies during this past Christmas and New Year.

NOW YOU’RE ASKING

7.15PM, RADIO 4 ★★★★ This must be one of radio’s friendliest programmes. The bestselling author Marian Keyes and the actress and writer Tara Flynn invite you to join them at their virtual kitchen table as they hand out advice to listeners with worries. Some of the problems are minor – such as a badly dressed boyfriend – but others are real dilemmas. Either way, Marian and Tara dish out good, frank advice that’s seasoned with wit and warmth.

JAZZ MEETS CLASSICAL 8PM, SCALA RADIO

★★★★ Jazz FM’S China Moses steps into Jack Pepper’s Scala Radio studio to trace links between classical and jazz. Tracks this week include music by the inspiring teacher and composer Nadia Boulanger and the all-round genius Quincy Jones, plus Kamasi Washington’s twist on Debussy’s Clair De Lune.
