PICK OF THE DAY

DEATH IN PARADISE

9PM, BBC1 ★★★★

After last week’s emotional farewell to Florence, it’s more like business as usual on Saint Marie this week – especially when normal business means murder. Neville and Sergeant Naomi Thomas (Ralf Little and Shantol Jackson, right) are caught up in whirl of celebrity intrigue when a young pop star is found dead while staying at a rehab clinic on the island. It looks like a tragic accident at first glance, but Neville’s senses are soon tingling, and he’s convinced that there’s more to her death than meets the eye.

WINTER OLYMPICS: OPENING CEREMONY 11.30AM, BBC1

★★★★

The 2022 Games in China starts today with live coverage of the opening ceremony; later, over on BBC2 (7pm), Clare Balding presents the nightly highlights show, which tonight includes curling and figure skating. Coverage from Beijing continues on the BBC and Eurosport until February 20.

WORLD’S MOST SCENIC RIVER JOURNEYS 7PM, CH5 ★★★

Bill Nighy narrates another restful river journey on board a traditional boat, this time through the heart of southwest France. From a hot-air balloon, we take in a bird’s-eye view of fairytale castles, and a once-vital waterway that snakes its way through beautiful countryside.

SUSAN CALMAN’S GRAND DAY OUT

8PM, CH5 ★★★★ Susan returns for a new series of jolly day trips inspired by her childhood family holidays. Hitting the road in her trusty camper van, Helen, Susan is in Devon to explore the stretch of coastline known as the English Riviera. There, she learns about a local pastime known as letterboxing, and joins a scallop-diving expedition.
