Good nature documentaries take our breath away with stunning footage of creatures in their natural habitats. Dynasties, narrated by national treasure Sir David Attenborough, does just that – but it’s the storytelling that really sets it apart. Eden focuses on a single location, while Dynasties hones in on a single animal family.

Over two series, we follow chimps in Senegal, emperor penguins in the Antarctic, meerkats in Botswana, elephants in Kenya and cheetahs in Zambia (right). Both shows share the excitement of the natural world, highlighting the beauty as well as the danger – and both do it with a narration that tells fascinating stories, breathing yet more energy and colour into nature’s incredible life-and-death moments.
