LEGENDARY TALE

Take a marathon dive into magic and fantasy for five series of Merlin, the hit show loosely inspired by the legend of King Arthur. Its primary appeal is the likeability of the characters, especially kind, young wizard Merlin, played by Colin Morgan (above, centre). Katie Mcgrath is also a delight as the increasingly wicked Morgana (second from right). This is dusty history made glossy, fun and bang-up-to-date, and it has a wry humour that prevents it from lurching into melodrama or taking the subject matter too seriously. Don’t miss John Hurt as the voice of Kilgharrah the dragon.
