There’s something magical about miniatures and that’s what this flyon-the-wall series taps into. We go behind the scenes at Hornby Railways, the British company founded in Liverpool in the early 1900s, as it makes marvellous models of trains, planes, automobiles – and more. These are more than toys – there’s a great deal of history and cherished childhood memories wrapped up in each and every model. Among the trains being designed is the P2 Prince of Wales locomotive (below). Once the most powerful express passenger engine in the UK, a new-build, full-size P2 is currently under construction in Darlington – and the race is on for Hornby to make a model version that they know will sell like hot cakes.
