GOOD GIRLS REVOLT

BATTLE OF

THE SEXES

‘Oh, a storm is threatening…’ snarls Mick Jagger as the Rolling Stones classic Gimme Shelter plays over the opening scenes. Based on real events at Newsweek magazine, this is the story of a group of female researchers (including Anna Camp as Jane, right) at the fictional News Of The Week in 1969. ‘News Of The Week is the first draft of history each week,’ says the (male) editor. But its attitude to female employees is prehistoric and the women are unhappy at the way they are treated. In the first episode, an employee called Nora Ephron (a real-life journalist turned screenwriter) quits over discrimination. She’s played by Grace Gummer, daughter of Meryl Streep, and while Good Girls Revolt is generally distinguished by its period look rather than the acting, hers is one of the standout performances.
