1971: THE YEAR THAT MUSIC CHANGED EVERYTHING

BEST ROCK HISTORY SHOW

WAS THIS MUSIC’S

GREATEST YEAR?

Marvin Gaye – What’s

Going On. Carole King –

You’ve Got A Friend. The Who – Won’t Get Fooled Again. No one would dispute that these are high points in the history of rock and pop but the thesis of this entertaining eight-part documentary is that they, and other songs released in 1971, represent a unique and unparalleled flourishing of creativity in popular music. Based on a book by music writer David Hepworth, it features terrific archive footage and interviews, and even if you don’t find its argument completely convincing, it will certainly have you dusting off a few old records.
