TENNIS PICK OF THE WEEK
French Open
from Sunday, 9.30am, Eurosport 1 Rafael Nadal (left) may be ‘the King of Clay’,
having won 13 of his 21 Major titles at Roland-garros in Paris, but now there’s a young pretender on the court. Nadal’s teenage Spanish compatriot Carlos Alcaraz (right) comes into this tournament having won the Miami Open and then the Madrid Open, where he beat both Nadal and Novak Djokovic along the way. He’s only 19 and destined for greatness, and that was the age when Nadal won his first Major, in 2005, at Roland-garros. Defending champion Djokovic is being allowed to play here, while in the women’s tournament Czech world number 2 Barbora Krejcíková defends her title, and Emma Raducanu hopes to be fit to compete.
