My weekend

Beverley Knight

What I’m watching... I’m one of the very few people who missed Downton Abbey a decade ago when it was life itself, so I’m now catching up on it.

What I’m listening to... I’m a history nerd, so I’m listening to the British Scandal podcast; Matt Forde and Alice Levine present it brilliantly. They’ve done ‘canoe man’ John Darwin and Lord Lucan, and I’ve just finished listening to the one about Jeffrey Archer when he went to jail.

What I’m cooking... My husband James often does the cooking. When I do cook, it’s mostly West Indian food, so brown stew chicken, ackee, salt fish. Mum and Dad cooked and I was taught by them.

My favourite restaurant... I’m gutted as it’s about to close, but it was the Michelin-starred Casamia in Bristol. But the owners are extending their other restaurant in Bristol called Paco Tapas.

My weekends growing up... I was blessed to be raised by both my parents and my grandparents in Wolverhampton. I used to hang out with my aunts and uncles a lot. My uncle Hayden had a massive record collection and I would be in his attic going through it, or watching MTV in his room and talking music.

My favourite walk... Parkland Walk in north London, which starts in Finsbury Park and goes to Alexandra Palace, is beautiful. It’s a disused railway

and you walk along where the tracks would have been. You feel like you’re not in London. There’s a similar one, Smestow Valley, in Wolverhampton.

My weekend treat... Going for walks with Zain, our rescue dog. The ideal is going to a restaurant where they allow dogs. We recently found one called The Small Holding in Kilndown, Kent.

My weekend hobby... I go to the gym a lot. I’m one of those people into health and fitness and I really like going for runs, maybe even a 10k.

My best night out... I recently went to the brilliant musical Get Up Stand Up! with Michael Duke and Gabrielle Brooks as Bob and Rita Marley.

As told to Rosanna Greenstreet Beverley appears as Deloris Van Cartier in Sister Act The Musical at London’s Eventim Apollo until 28 August 2022. Visit sisteractthemusical.co.uk
