SPRUNG

NEW COVID COMEDY Martha Plimpton has been doing fine work on-screen since The Goonies in 1985, and she delivers another very funny performance in this new comedy set in the paranoid early days of Covid. Barb (Plimpton) thinks of herself as a criminal mastermind and pushes her son and his ex-con friends into stealing for her as the US melts down from virus paranoia. But she’s also remarkably naive and has a dangerously short attention span, believing Trump may be onto something when he suggests injecting yourself with bleach to fight the virus.

Making a joke of Covid is still a challenge for comedy, but Sprung manages to do it in such a way that makes you both laugh and think and, crucially to the wider appeal of such a show, creates a ramshackle family from its characters on the way. Episodes 1 & 2 from Friday then weekly, via Freevee
