Pick of The DAY

QUESTION OF SPORT 8PM, BBC1

★★★

The world’s longest-running TV sport quiz has kept us entertained since it first aired more than 50 years ago. Paddy Mcguinness hosts the show, while team captains Sam Quek and Ugo Monye are joined this week by welterweight boxer Conor Benn, England footballer Andros Townsend, rugby union star Zoe Aldcroft and retired swimming champion Fran Halsall.

HOBBY MAN 8PM, CH4

★★★

At 38, comedian Alex Brooker realised he’d only ever had two pastimes – football and Ghostbusters – so, in this new series, he learns about great British hobbies in the hope that he might take one up. Inspired by Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, he heads to Edinburgh with Scarlett Moffatt to visit one of the oldest chess clubs in the country, before they try to brew their own beer with allfemale group Beers Without Beards. Alex and Scarlett also grab binoculars (above) for an introduction to birdwatching.

GARDENERS’ WORLD 9.30PM, BBC2

★★★★

It’s been a hot summer and at Longmeadow, Monty Don is trying to keep the flowers in bloom while getting stuck into more seasonal jobs. Adam

Frost visits a Victorian walled kitchen garden in Somerset that is providing plenty of fresh produce, and The Repair Shop’s resident horologist Steve Fletcher shares his passion for gardening.

JANE AUSTEN’S SANDITON 9PM, ITV

★★★★ London’s high society is heading to Sanditon for a big ball – that’s if it takes place at all. Town patriarch Tom Parker’s debts have put the event in jeopardy. Charlotte (right) is still troubled by Colbourne’s behaviour at the garden party, while he continues to warn her off his romantic rival Colonel Lennox without any explanation. Plus, Edward’s dark manipulation of Esther continues, and Alison is reeling after realising her Army sweetheart is a fraud – although another officer is waiting to win her affections.
