REASONABLE DOUBT

SIZZLING LEGAL THRILLER

Aimed squarely at viewers of How

To Get Away With Murder and

Scandal (the latter’s star Kerry Washington produces this, and directs the first episode), this slick new legal drama series is as much if not more about the sexy out-of-courtroom sizzle as it is about epic grandstanding in front of a jury. Emayatzy Corinealdi stars as Jax Stewart (above), a seemingly polished, top-flight Los Angeles defence attorney who will do anything to keep her clients out of jail. But behind the scenes, her private life is crumbling – her marriage is ending, her own past traumas are bubbling up and the demands of motherhood never seem to end. With all that on her plate, can she really take on and win a high-profile murder case? From Tuesday

there’s an actress involved. Be warned, though, that the middle episodes tackle the peak of the pandemic and are packed with people coughing and miserable situations in hospitals; and we’ve all seen a lot of that. It is an impressive re-creation, and it’s important to remember what mistakes were made, it’s just not everyone’s idea of a good time. Six-part box set from Wednesday
