Pick of the week BACHELOR IN PARADISE

Sunny Dating Contest

On US TV, contenders who don’t find love on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette can wind up on this sunny spin-off filmed on a beach in Mexico. They all tend to know each other, at least by reputation, which gives it a very different vibe to other shows of its kind – the opening credits typically introduce each in the goofy style of a sitcom. There’s also a wise, Cheers-style bartender, Wells Adams, who dispenses advice to the lovelorn while calmly cleaning glasses at the beachfront bar.

And, as a veteran of season 12 of The Bachelorette and season three of this show, Wells knows what he’s talking about. ‘There’s a lot of crying, there’s a lot of sweating and yelling into the ocean,’ he says of season eight, which begins this week. Weekly from Friday, via hayu
