This two-part documentary, narrated by former Strictly winner Jill Halfpenny, tells the story of the rise and fall of the high-street giant. It begins at the turn of the millennium, a booming time for Topshop as models, celebrities and schoolgirls brushed shoulders as they browsed the brand’s cool and cutting-edge fashion. In an industry traditionally dominated by men, Topshop was doing something different: women were creating desirable and affordable clothes for women. But how long would that last once ambitious retailer Philip Green took over Topshop’s parent company in 2002, and a battle for the soul of the company began? Next week, we examine the fallout from that war – and it isn’t pretty.
