SENSATIONALISTS: THE BAD GIRLS AND BOYS OF BRITISH ART
9PM, bbc2
Back in 1997, the advertising mogul and art-lover Charles Saatchi put a number of works in his collection on show in an exhibition called Sensation; the Royal Academy warned off visitors for whom the sight of a shark suspended in formaldehyde or a self-portrait in frozen blood could prove too much. This threepart series looks at the people who caused such a stir, collectively known as the Young British Artists – Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst and Chris Ofili among them. The politics and club scene of the 1980s played a big role in their personal and artistic development, and this first episode, postponed from last week, follows these upstarts through school and beyond.
