Pick of the week NOLLY

SOAP LEGEND’S STORY Noele ‘Nolly’ Gordon might be a name that has faded from memory but, during her 18 years as the star of soap opera Crossroads, the ‘Queen of the Midlands’ pulled in audiences of 15 million a night. Writer Russell T Davies’ three-part drama is a bighearted tribute to Nolly (Helena Bonham Carter, above), following her as she adjusts to her shock ‘sacking’ from the soap. Davies is an expert at balancing humour and sentiment and Nolly’s scenes with Larry Grayson (Mark Gatiss) are especially poignant. Don’t miss companion documentary, The Real Nolly.
