YOUR GUIDE TO VIAPLAY

What is Viaplay?

An on-demand library of Nordic TV dramas and films (980 hours of TV, 160 of movies) plus a range of live sport, much of which comes from Viaplay’s purchase of Premier Sports last year.

How much does it cost?

For the TV and film it’s £3.99 a month after a seven-day free trial, while adding sport takes it to £14.99. You can cancel any time but, if you commit for a year, the price drops to £11.99.

How do I watch it? On various streaming devices (including Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV) and smart TVS, as well as on computers or via Apple and Android devices. The sport can be watched live or on demand through Viaplay, or live through Viaplay Sports

1 & 2 and Viaplay Xtra on Sky (412, 421, 422), Virgin (551-3) or Prime Video channels.

What are the TV highlights?

Poldark’s Freddie Wise (near right) in Cell 8, and Downton-esque Danish drama Seaside Hotel. If you’re after classics, there’s the Krister Henriksson Wallanders and Beck.

What about films? A lot of variety, from Borg vs Mcenroe with Shia Labeouf and Sverrir Gudnason (top), to Mads Mikkelsen (below) in period drama A Royal Affair.

And the sport? There’s football (La Liga, Scottish Cup, Scottish League Cup and Coppa Italia), rugby (TOP 14, United Rugby Championship, Rugby Football League) as well as ice hockey, volleyball and more.

What about the future?

They’re filming a new adaptation of Ian Rankin’s Rebus this year and, from 2024, will have exclusive rights to Scottish, Welsh and Northern

Irish national team football.
