The TV series Happy Valley gives a grim picture of life in Calderdale, so it’s good to hear Clare Balding (right) and the Commoners Choir taking a walk full of song and laughter through some of Calderdale’s stunning scenery. On a cold January day, Clare and the choir meet up at the Shepherd’s Rest pub, then head for the highest beach in the UK – at Gaddings Dam – where some of the choir plunge into the chilly waters, singing as they go.
