Pick of The DAY

FATHER BROWN

1.45PM, BBC1 ★★★

It’s the return of Flambeau in this episode – no surprise to fans who will know the master thief pops up regularly in G.K. Chesterton’s novels. Wanted for murder and on the run, Flambeau (John Light) reintroduces himself in the confessional and assures Father Brown that ‘for once, I’m innocent’. They make an unlikely team, but set off together to get to the bottom of the crimes – and who’s got it in for Flambeau.

AMOL RAJAN INTERVIEWS BILL GATES 7.30PM, BBC2

★★★

Amol Rajan gets a rare interview with tech titan turned philanthropist Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, who was for many years the richest man on the planet. There are big questions to ask Gates, and Rajan doesn’t just stick to the safest. It’s a broad, wide-ranging and illuminating conversation that takes in Elon Musk, politics and conspiracy theories, as well as Gates’s charitable foundation and how he feels about giving away much of his multibillion-dollar fortune.

TRAVEL MAN: 48 HOURS IN MARSEILLES 8.30PM, CH4 ★★★

People Just Do Nothing’s Asim Chaudhry (aka cuddly Chabuddy G) joins Joe Lycett in the oldest city in France, where they don’t just take in the obvious sights, such as the Basilica of Notre-dame de la Garde, but also the city’s world-famous skatepark, the tunnel of 1,000 signs and a stunning underwater museum. They also don’t skimp on the calories, tucking into delicious, doughnut-like chichi fregis.

DEATH IN PARADISE 9PM, BBC1 ★★★

Marlon (Tahj Miles, left) is finally sitting his sergeant’s exams but first, he has to do his bit for community policing at an event celebrating the work of a children’s home on the island. The party is very quickly over when one of the charity’s greatest success stories is found stabbed to death, with ‘tiger boy’, aka Marlon, in hot pursuit of the suspect. Neville, Naomi and Selwyn are on the case, but something just doesn’t add up. Suspect Marian, honorary mother to the home’s children, ‘doesn’t have a temper to lose’. Selwyn, meanwhile, has a personal matter to deal with as he goes to meet his daughter (former Casualty star Genesis Lynea) for the first time, and Neville prepares for his own happy reunion.
