My weekend

REETA CHAKRABARTI

What I’m watching... I recently went to Japan and India to visit family, so I’m catching up on TV. I greatly enjoyed the twists and turns of gritty crime thriller Tokyo Vice on iplayer, as well as the great shots of the city, and I was also riveted by Putin vs The West – the producers got fantastic access to the key global players of the last decade. What I’m listening to... I’m a creature of habit and BBC Radio 4 is the soundtrack in almost every room of the house. I particularly like More Or Less with Tim Harford, which takes a witty, close-focus look at how politicians and the media use numbers. What I’m reading... My trip to Japan and India has strongly influenced the novels I’ve been reading. Convenience

Store Woman by Sayaka Murata is very slick and great fun, and I also read A Golden

Age by Tahmima Anam, which is set during the 1971 war of independence to form Bangladesh. I’m now reading Odysseus Abroad by

Amit Chaudhuri, about an Indian student living in London.

My favourite restaurant... I work long hours so favourites near Broadcasting House in central London include Iberica, a tapas restaurant which does great jamón croquettes, and for lunch a Persian place called Naroon that serves a delicious herb soufflé omelette called Kuku Sabzi.

What I’m cooking... I’m a fan of one-pot meals. My signature dishes include Bakmi Goreng (Indonesian noodles), chicken tagine with tomatoes and honey, which is very easy and delicious, and chilli tofu with peppers, which blows your head off if you make it properly.

My favourite walk... We are spoilt for parks in London. I love Regent’s Park, Highgate Wood and Hampstead Heath. And the walk from Broadcasting House to the Tube station at the end of a shift…

As told to York Membery Reeta presents the BBC News At One, Six and Ten on BBC1 and the BBC News Channel.
