HEBBURN LAUGHS WITH A GEORDIE FAMILY
This light-hearted comedy, set in the North-east town of Hebburn, has a slight air of Gavin & Stacey to it. Kimberley Nixon’s bookish Sarah is the girl getting a baptism of fire when she meets the family of her new hubby Jack (stand-up comic and podcaster Chris Ramsey) for the first time. Jack’s family comprises Jim
Moir, aka surreal comic Vic
Reeves, as dad Joe, and Gina Mckee as upbeat mum Pauline (both below, with Ramsey) – both playing against type, with Mum’s Lisa Mcgrillis a standout as Jack’s vivacious, plain-talking sister Vicki. It’s a class comedy of sorts, celebrating working-class Northern spirit, with Sarah as a fish out of water (she’s Jewish, and from York), finding a home among colourfully eccentric, saltof-the-earth folk.
