We think of country music as an American genre but, like the blues, it’s really more of a state of mind. Apple’s contest takes that idea and runs with it, bringing country music artists from all over the world to compete in Nashville, Tennessee. The winner will receive a high-profile slot on Apple Music, which should provide quite a boost to their career. It’s produced by Reese Witherspoon and country luminary Kacey Musgraves, whose own career was boosted by TV contest Nashville Star back in 2007. They appear on the show, but the focus here is the musicians, their unique take on the genre, and on the three scouts – Jimmie Allen, Mickey Guyton and Orville Peck, who are also the judges – who bring them to Nashville.
