Idris Elba takes this Paris-set action thriller in his long stride as a CIA agent who uncovers a conspiracy. Richard Madden (Bodyguard) is the American pickpocket who lends a hand when he’s caught red-handed after a bomb goes off, while Charlotte Le Bon is a local woman with her own part to play in the ensuing chaos.

10.45PM, BBC4 Meryl Streep plays a tuneless real-life US socialite (below) who forges a unique singing career in this warm drama. Hugh Grant, in one of his best roles, plays her companioncum-manager – and one of those who contribute

to the delusion that she is a top singer.

Usually a source of mockery, Dr Frankenstein’s assistant, Igor, is the focus (and narrator) of this retelling of Mary Shelley’s famous, oft-told story. Daniel Radcliffe plays Igor, sympathetically and with restraint, with James Mcavoy as the supposedly ‘visionary’ scientist he teams up with.
