SUCCESSION DYNASTIC DRAMA CONCLUDES

Nicole Lampert From Monday, Sky Atlantic and Now.

Succession, the multi awardwinning black comedy-drama about a media dynasty riven by infighting, is finally coming to an end with... a succession!

Over three series we’ve seen ailing media mogul Logan Roy (Brian Cox) fighting with his four spoiled and ambitious children Shiv, Roman, Connor and Kendall (Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck and Jeremy Strong). The siblings have locked horns on private jets, superyachts and in some of the world’s most beautiful houses as they jostled for their father’s favour and the chance to ultimately be crowned heir to his company Waystar Royco.

All good things must end though, and the show’s British creator Jesse Armstrong has revealed the new fourth series will be the last. But on the plus side he’s promised a brilliant ending in which we’ll find out who takes over the family firm.

‘I got together with a few of my fellow writers before we started writing season four and I said, “Look, I think this maybe should be it. But what do you think?”’ says Armstrong. ‘And we played out various scenarios. We could go on for ages and turn Succession into something rather different, a more rangy, freewheeling kind of fun show, where there would be good weeks and bad weeks. Or we could do something a bit more muscular and complete, and go out strong.

And that last option was definitely always my preference.’

This ten-episode series picks up soon after the last ended. Having finally united to stand against their father’s decision to sell the company to tech tycoon Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgard), Logan’s children found they were too late to stop him and had been betrayed by Shiv’s husband Tom (Matthew Macfadyen). Now, as Shiv faces estrangement from her father and husband, Tom, along with his sidekick Greg (Nicholas Braun), gets to cosy up to Logan.

As usual, a whole series of glamorous locations will provide the backdrop to all this drama. Filming took place in a mansion overlooking the ocean in Santa Monica which is said to be the second most expensive house in California. Scenes were also shot in Matsson’s homeland Norway – including on the breathtaking

Atlantic Ocean Road that featured in Bond film No Time To Die and in the striking Juvet Landscape Hotel, with its timber and glass pods set in stunning wilderness.

While this is the end of Succession, fans may have something to look forward to. ‘The succession story that we were telling is complete,’ says Jesse. ‘But maybe there’s another part of this world we could come back to, if there was an appetite.’
