9PM, BBC1 ★★★★ There have been at least ten screen adaptations of Charles Dickens’s classic coming-ofage novel – and this, from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, promises to be the darkest version yet. In the first of six parts, we meet young orphan Pip (Tom Sweet), who longs for a different life, before two twists of fate change the course of his future. Most of this episode focuses on setting the scene, but keep watching until the end to see Oscar-winning actor Olivia Colman’s take on the infamous spinster Miss Havisham (above left, with the older Pip and Estella).
