ICE AGE: COLLISION COURSE

(2016) U ■ 12.55PM, CH4 ★★★ Number five in the colourful animated franchise, which staved off extinction last year with a spin-off movie on Disney+. Prehistoric pals Manny, Diego and the rest try to avoid disaster when asteroids threaten the Earth. And it’s all the fault of that irritating, but hugely entertaining, squirrel Scrat (below).

THE FIRST GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY

(1978) 12 ◆ 1PM, BBC2 ★★★ Now here’s some casting –

Sean Connery plays a Victorian master thief, with Wayne Sleep and Donald Sutherland as the odd-couple safecrackers he enlists to help with a bullion heist. Slick rather than edge-of-the-seat, it was writer Michael Crichton’s third stab at directing (after Westworld and Coma).

MARLEY & ME

(2008) PG ● 2.45PM, ITV1 ★★★ Weepy romantic comedy starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston as a married couple going through life’s highs and lows with Marley, their adorable pet Labrador, at their feet – and on their couch, in their pool, chewing up their home… If you’re more of a cat person, it’s best to look away now.

DARKEST HOUR (2017) PG

10.30PM, BBC1 ★★★★

Gary Oldman is on Oscar-winning form in a fat suit and facial wattle to portray Winston Churchill in this historical drama. The year is 1940, and life in Britain is about to change as Churchill leads the charge against appeasement. Events are split between the dramas of Parliament and the PM’S more private life, with his wife and trusted confidante (Kristen Scott Thomas).
