Pick of The DAY

GARDENERS’ WORLD 8PM, BBC2

★★★★

There’s a nice mix of the traditional and unusual in this episode. Adam Frost cracks on with his veg plot now that spring is in full swing, planting his first lot of potatoes and revealing a radical plan for his lawn that will hopefully increase biodiversity. Rekha Mistry wants to try something a bit different and has a go at planting cotton, a tropical shrub and not an obvious choice for these climes, but one that can grow successfully with a bit of planning.

GREAT BRITISH MENU: BANQUET SPECIAL

9PM, BBC2 ★★★★

It’s the grand final, and the overall winner will be decided in the eating, as guests sit down for the banquet at the Brighton Royal Pavilion. This year, the chefs were tasked with creating menus celebrating animation and illustration in honour of the 65th birthday of Paddington (left), the marmalade-loving bear from Peru. Among the guests tucking in to the mouthwatering dishes will be Lenny Henry, Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler and Horrible Histories creator Terry Deary. All we can say is, ‘yum, yum!’

AMAZING RAILWAY ADVENTURES WITH NICK KNOWLES 9PM, CH5

★★★ In Malaysia, Nick Knowles takes not one but three train rides, aiming to see as much as he can of this equatorial paradise. Unmissable highlights include the colourful Hindu shrine at the Batu Caves, an encounter with ‘therapy elephants’, and a tree-top walkway through the rainforest at Taman Negara National Park.
