Weekend of freedom... with some very social distancing!

By Az Munrallee

PARTYGOERS flocked to nightclubs across the country to celebrate the first weekend since Freedom Day.

Clubbers were allowed to take to dancefloors for the first time since March last year without needing Covid passports.

Face masks are also no longer legally required, and with social distancing rules shelved, there are no limits on numbers attending.

Festivals have also been given the long-awaited green light, with thousands descending on Suffolk, North London and Cheshire.

In Suffolk, Latitude’s four-day festival, which is part of the Government’s Events Research Programme, was attended by 40,000, eager to see headliners The Chemical Brothers and Bastille.

And nearly 10,000 music fans savoured new-found freedoms at the Kaleidoscope Festival in Alexandra Palace Park, North London, on Saturday. Festivalgoers were asked to show proof of a negative Covid-19 test or be double vaccinated to access the events.

DJ Chris Evans, 55, took a Covid test on stage at CarFest, which he founded, in Cheshire on Friday. Evans struggled to stop laughing as he performed the test on himself, with the crowd cheering him on.
